Two civilians killed, nearly 20 homes burned in Myanmar junta airstrikes in Sagaing’s Wetlet

Two civilians were killed and three others injured after the Myanmar military junta launched airstrikes on Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, on the morning of 28 July, according to local sources. The military carried out four airstrikes around 10:30 AM on Paukkan Station and Samun villages in southern Wetlet Township.An official from the Wetlet Information Network told Mizzima that the attacks killed Myint Than, 60, an internally displaced person (IDP) from Shwe Pyi village sheltering in Paukkan Station village, and Ma Myint Maw, 40, from Samun village. Three others were injured. “One died in Paukkan, another in Samun, and three others were injured,” the official said. Approximately 20 homes were destroyed by fire in the airstrikes, the official added. Another airstrike targeted Wetlet Township on 27 July, though no casualties were reported. “There were no casualties. People from that area had already fled. A military column was stationed about three to four miles northeast of the strike zone, so they just fired into the forest,” the official said. Separately, on 16 July, an airstrike on a school in Taline Kyun village, Sagaing Township, killed two civilians and destroyed four school buildings and three houses.
