Cambodia Deports 11 Thai Nationals for Illegal Stay and Work

Cambodian authorities have deported 11 Thai nationals, including five women, for illegal stay, unauthorized employment, and other offenses. The operation is part of the nation's stepped-up law enforcement efforts. On the 18th, the General Department of Immigration announced that, following the high-level recommendations of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, the Department of Investigation and Procedure Enforcement had deported 11 Thai nationals (five women) from the Kingdom of Cambodia via the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province. According to the same source, the deportation was carried out after authorities found the individuals involved in illegal border crossing, illegal stay and employment, and unauthorized possession and use of weapons within the Kingdom of Cambodia. The General Department asserted that this operation to deport illegal foreign residents is a strict implementation of the orders and legal measures by Samdech Maha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Prime Minister had previously clearly stated his stance: "Cambodia will not allow criminals or lawbreakers to use Cambodian territory as a base for fraudulent activities or to commit offenses that cause insecurity to the region and the world. Authorities must continue to sweep, suppress, and deport without exception to protect national honor and security."
