Hun Manet Congratulates Vietnam on Independence Day, Pledges Stronger Ties

PHNOM PENH, Sept 2, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has congratulated Vietnam on its 81st Independence Day, praising the country’s economic progress and pledging to further strengthen bilateral ties. In a letter to Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung dated Aug 27, Samdech Thipadei extended his congratulations to the government and people of Vietnam ahead of Independence Day on Sept 2. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of those who fought for independence, saying their legacy continued to inspire successive generations. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also highlighted Vietnam’s economic achievements, noting growth of more than 8 percent last year. He said the country was on course to meet its long‑term goals of becoming an industrialised nation by 2030 and a high‑income socialist country by 2045. The Cambodian leader described relations between the two neighbours as rooted in good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long‑term stability. He said cooperation had expanded across multiple areas and brought tangible benefits to both countries. Samdech Thipadei said he looked forward to working closely with Hung to further strengthen relations and contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region. He also expressed anticipation at welcoming the Vietnamese prime minister and his wife to Cambodia next month. Vietnam marks Independence Day on Sept 2, commemorating Ho Chi Minh’s declaration of independence from French colonial rule in 1945.
