Young Soldier Awarded State Honor Posthumously for Saving Comrade in Vietnam

Vietnam's President has signed a decision to posthumously award the third-class Fatherland Protection Order to Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh, who died while saving a fellow soldier during a national defense construction mission. On August 8, the President signed the decision to posthumously award the third-class Fatherland Protection Order to Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh, a former soldier of Squad 2, Company 17, Engineer Battalion, under the Staff Department of the Hai Phong City Military Command, Military Region 3. In the morning of August 7, soldier Cao Tuan Anh and soldier Nguyen Binh Nguyen, along with their comrades, were carrying out a national defense construction mission in Bach Long Vi Island Special Zone. Suddenly, a landslide occurred. Comrade Cao Tuan Anh rushed to pull Comrade Nguyen Binh Nguyen away from the landslide area. However, due to the sudden and rapid nature of the landslide, both soldiers were seriously injured. They were taken for emergency treatment at the Bach Long Vi Island Special Zone Medical Center, but Comrade Cao Tuan Anh did not survive and passed away at 10:55 AM the same day. In recognition of his brave actions in saving his comrade without regard for personal danger while on duty, the Hai Phong City Military Command decided to promote Comrade Cao Tuan Anh's rank from Private First Class to Sergeant. Comrade Cao Tuan Anh's actions demonstrate a spirit of courage and willingness to sacrifice himself to protect the lives of his comrades, contributing to the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army and shining the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. He serves as a shining example for the younger generation in the Army today and in the future. Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh was born on October 21, 2006. His hometown is Vinh Thinh village, Hai Phong city. He enlisted in February 2025. His rank was Private First Class, and his position was soldier, serving in Squad 2, Company 17, Engineer Battalion, Staff Department, Hai Phong City Military Command, Military Region 3.
