Shooting Incident at Bali Bar Injures Chinese National and Security Guard
A shooting incident at a bar in Canggu, Bali, left a Chinese national and a security guard injured. The Indonesian male suspect was apprehended at the airport, with motives and the origin of the firearm under investigation.
A shooting incident occurred at the bar The Shady Pig on Jalan Pantai Berawa Number 168, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali, on Friday (17/7/2026) at approximately 02:50 WITA. The victims in the incident were a security guard with the initials IMYM (32) and a Chinese national with the initials EA (25). Based on the initial investigation, the incident began when the suspect, identified by the initials H, had an argument with the Chinese national victim. The security guard then attempted to mediate by standing in front of the Chinese national. At that moment, the suspect allegedly fired shots, hitting the security guard's left thigh, with the projectile passing through and then striking the left thigh of the Chinese national victim directly behind him. During the crime scene investigation, police secured several pieces of evidence, including the victims' clothing, shoes, socks, blood-stained cloth, and a yellow copper-colored projectile suspected to be from the perpetrator's firearm. Joint forces from the police and Immigration eventually apprehended the suspect. Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, acting temporary head of the Public Relations Sub-division of Badung Police, stated that H was arrested on Saturday night (18/7/2026) by a joint team from the Bali Regional Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate, Badung Resort Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and Immigration officials at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang. "The male suspect, an Indonesian citizen, was indeed arrested on Saturday night by a joint team from the Bali Regional Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate, Badung Resort Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and Immigration officials at Soekarno-Hatta Airport," Inastuti said, as quoted by Antara on Sunday (19/7/2026). The suspect has currently been taken to the Badung Police for intensive interrogation. Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting and the origin of the firearm used.
