Heavy rains expected in next 4 days across all regions and states including flood-affected Ayeyarwaddy Region, Sittoung River water level exceeds danger mark in Madauk

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has issued a warning that heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected across all regions and states, including the flood-affected Ayeyarwaddy Region, from August 4th to 7th, with potential for localized heavy rainfall. This is due to the strengthening of the monsoon in the Bay of Bengal and the southern Andaman Sea, and the active development of cumulonimbus clouds, which can lead to heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Specifically, heavy rains are expected in Ayeyarwaddy Region, including the flood-affected town of Letpadan, as well as Yangon, Bago, Mandalay, Magway, Sagaing, and Tanintharyi regions, and Kachin, Kayinni (Kayah), Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan states, with heavy thunderstorms and potential for localized heavy rainfall. The Sittoung River water level in Madauk town, Bago Region, has currently exceeded the danger mark by over one foot, and is expected to rise by approximately two inches within the next day. Residents living near the riverbanks are advised to evacuate to higher ground in advance to avoid flood damage. Furthermore, heavy rainfall may be accompanied by strong winds, sudden floods, and landslides. Therefore, residents living along small rivers and streams are strongly advised to be vigilant and take precautions against floods and inundation. The DMH has also stated that strong winds and thunderstorms are expected along the Myanmar coast and offshore waters, with moderate to high waves. Wind speeds over the sea and land are expected to range from 25 to 30 miles per hour, with wave heights potentially reaching 7 to 9 feet. Additionally, a major typhoon named "Dolphin" is expected to approach the southeastern coast of China within the next week and move inland. According to the analysis of U Win Naing, who studies meteorological phenomena, this typhoon's influence could lead to heavy rainfall in the central regions of Myanmar, namely Sagaing and Mandalay regions.
