Mid-Autumn Festival Joy Reaches Children in Vietnam's Border Regions

On the evening of September 17, a "Border Moon Festival" program was organized in Phong Tho commune, Lai Châu Province, northern Vietnam, for approximately 860 children residing in the border area. The program was a collaborative effort by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Châu Province, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Provincial Women's Union, the Provincial Youth Union, Phong Tho Commune, VietinBank Lai Châu Branch, and Viettel Lai Châu Branch. The "Border Moon Festival" aims to enable children in border regions to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival (Tết Trung Thu), a traditional Vietnamese holiday, in a warm and festive atmosphere. This initiative can be seen as part of the Vietnamese government's social welfare policies, which focus on providing opportunities for children in economically disadvantaged and remote areas to experience traditional culture and foster connections with their communities. Similar events celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival have been held in various border and impoverished regions across Vietnam in the past, highlighting the emphasis placed on supporting children and preserving traditional culture. For instance, activities such as distributing gifts to children have also taken place in border areas with Laos and in Đắk Lắk Province. Such activities reflect the Vietnamese government's commitment to social harmony and development under its one-party system, while also demonstrating consideration for addressing regional disparities and ensuring the healthy development of children. The involvement of private enterprises and organizations in tackling social issues also exemplifies the characteristics of Vietnam's social structure.
