YANGON, July 8 The military junta has fiercely attacked Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, who represents the people of Myanmar, and has sent an open letter to the UN Secretary-General demanding his removal from the post of Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the UN, it is known. On July 8, an article titled "Open Letter to the UN Secretary-General (2)" by a writer named "Min Khant" was published in newspapers and websites under the Ministry of Information, which is under the control of the military junta, and in that article, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun was targeted and attacked. The open letter states that since the political changes in 2021, the UN Credentials Committee has not recognized a new permanent representative for Myanmar and has put it on hold, thus there is no one representing Myanmar. However, it is stated that Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun has not yet been removed from his post due to the procedures of the Credentials Committee, and he continues to make statements regarding Myanmar on behalf of the NUG in informal UN meetings. The military junta has stated that Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun was dismissed from his position as a staff member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after 2021 and has also been stripped of his citizenship, and therefore he no longer has the right to represent Myanmar. Furthermore, the NUG and PDF have been accused of being terrorist organizations, and the military junta claims that Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun is presenting information related to Myanmar at the UN on behalf of these organizations, and that such actions undermine Myanmar's stability. The open letter also accuses Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun of using over US$2.6 million in state funds from the bank account of the Myanmar Permanent Mission in New York without proper accounting. The military junta wrote that these funds are for embassy staff salaries, office expenses, and annual dues that Myanmar owes to the UN. In addition, according to a UN statement, Myanmar has not paid its annual dues to the UN since 2021. However, the military junta claims that Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun stated on social media that he received funds from the NUG and paid the UN annual dues. The open letter describes Myanmar's election held in 2026 as free and fair, and states that the current government is the legitimate government elected by the people. Therefore, the terrorist military junta has urged the UN to quickly accept and recognize the new permanent representative for Myanmar appointed by the current government and to remove Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun from the post of Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the UN.
