Vietnam Targets 50% Farm Cooperative-Enterprise Links by 2030

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is set to promote links between agricultural cooperatives and enterprises, aiming for approximately half of the nation's cooperatives to be connected with businesses, science and technology organizations, and other economic entities by 2030. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to develop concentrated agricultural, forestry, and fisheries raw material production areas and enhance value chain production. The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance targets over 5,000 high-tech cooperatives by 2030, and the current push for stronger links is seen as a crucial step towards achieving this goal. In recent years, the Vietnamese agricultural sector has increasingly recognized the importance of collaboration between cooperatives and advanced enterprises to boost productivity, ensure stringent quality control, and improve access to international markets. The policy is also in sync with a series of efforts to modernize Vietnamese agriculture and enhance its global competitiveness. This includes initiatives like Turkish cooperatives opening sourcing channels for Vietnamese businesses and programs supporting the sustainable transition of 25,000 businesses and cooperatives. The Vietnamese government, under its one-party system, prioritizes structural reforms in agriculture as a key driver of economic growth. Enhancing the added value and export competitiveness of agricultural products is particularly vital for reducing economic dependence on China and diversifying export markets.
