Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial Enters 28th Day; Unexplained Wealth Under Scrutiny

The Senate impeachment court is expected to resume hearing on Vice President Sara Duterte's alleged unexplained wealth as her impeachment trial enters its 28th day on Tuesday. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Company Registration and Monitoring Department Director Gerardo Fernando del Rosario is scheduled to return on Tuesday for more questioning by the prosecution. During Monday's proceedings, Del Rosario said the 1987 Constitution prohibits the President, Vice President, Cabinet members and their deputies from holding business interests while in office. He testified that Duterte remained a member of the board of directors of Metro City Chow Foods Corporation even after she assumed the vice presidency. According to Del Rosario, Duterte's membership in the company's board was reflected in its General Information Sheets submitted to the SEC from 2022 to 2025. The House prosecution panel is also expected to present Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) Division chief Rendell Sopeña.
