Truck Fire Causes 5km Traffic Jam on Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway

Around 3 PM on July 29th, a fire broke out on a truck carrying plastic products on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway in Dong Nai province. The truck, driven by Nghiêm Hồng Thái, 34, from An Giang province, was traveling from Lam Dong towards Ho Chi Minh City. Approximately 100 meters before the Long Thanh interchange, which connects to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, the driver noticed flames erupting from the left front wheel area. He pulled over to the shoulder and attempted to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher, but it spread. The fire ignited the tires and the plastic products in the truck bed, engulfing a portion of the vehicle. Dong Nai provincial firefighters were dispatched with specialized vehicles, and the blaze was largely controlled by around 3:30 PM. According to the expressway management unit, the incident prevented vehicles traveling from Dau Giay towards Ho Chi Minh City from passing the area, leading to a traffic jam stretching 5 km. By 6 PM, the scene was cleared, and traffic on the expressway returned to normal. The fire destroyed the left front wheel and some of the cargo, but no casualties were reported. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the relevant authorities. The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is about 55 km long and serves as a major transportation artery connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai province, Long Thanh Airport, and provinces in the Southeast and South Central regions. The section from An Phu intersection to Long Thanh is currently undergoing expansion to 8-10 lanes.
