Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister urges to expand corn cultivation and export directly from Pathein port for GDP growth

Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw urged to further promote the expansion of corn cultivation acreage and direct export from Pathein port for the growth of the Ayeyarwady Region's GDP. The Chief Minister made the call at the annual general meeting of the Ayeyarwady Region Corn Business Association held at Golden Bay Hotel in Chaung Tha on July 25. "The agricultural sector is a major driving force for food security, job creation, rural development, and the economic growth of the country. The Ayeyarwady Region is a region with high potential for cultivating and producing not only rice but also other economic crops including corn. As the corn business is a sector that connects agriculture, trade, production, livestock, and MSME businesses, it is also a sector that strengthens job creation and regional economic circulation," said Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw. "The Ayeyarwady Region has over 40,000 acres of corn cultivation land, producing over 140,000 tons of corn annually. It has the potential to become an important production region capable of producing high-quality corn not only for domestic consumption but also for the foreign market. If the produced goods can be exported directly from Pathein port to foreign countries, the region's GDP will increase. Therefore, we urge the Ayeyarwady Corn Association to further strive to expand corn cultivation acreage and to export to other countries from Pathein port," the Chief Minister added.
