Cambodia: Driver Charged in Fatal Luxury Car Accident

In a tragic incident in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, a luxury car collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider. Phnom Penh Municipal Court prosecutors have charged Sam Maiju, 27, female, with causing a fatal traffic accident and fleeing the scene. The accident occurred on the night of July 28, 2026, at approximately 11:21 PM, in front of Aeon Mall 2, along Street 1003, in the village of Banteay Sreik, Sangkat Khleang, Sen Sok District, Phnom Penh. Reports indicate that the black AVATR 11, driven by the accused Sam Maiju (license plate: Cambodia V.C.8989), veered approximately 1.90 meters into the opposing lane and collided with a Honda Scoopy motorcycle (license plate: Phnom Penh 1HL-4247). The motorcyclist, Kouk Limhan, 35, male, was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the accident, Sam Maiju fled the scene. However, on July 30, 2026, at approximately 2:10 PM, her family handed her over to the traffic police for legal proceedings. After questioning Sam Maiju, the police compiled a case file and submitted it to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court prosecutor's office for further action. Based on the conclusions of the traffic police experts and the results of the prosecutor's investigation, it has been determined that Sam Maiju was indeed the driver who caused the traffic accident. Prosecutors have officially charged Sam Maiju with causing a traffic accident resulting in death and with fleeing the scene, as stipulated under Article 85 of the Law on Road Traffic and Article 543 of the Penal Code.
