Nam Tson Reserved Forest Established

An area of 25,200 acres within Lin Kin Township, Lin Kin District, Shan State has been designated as "Nam Tson Reserved Forest" starting September 1st, as reported in state-run newspapers published on September 11th. This designation is reportedly aimed at expanding the original habitats of endemic species and wildlife, protecting the natural environment and biodiversity, conserving water and land, ensuring a balanced and favorable climate, and supporting the basic food, clothing, and shelter needs of local residents. With the establishment of the Nam Tson Reserved Forest, valuable timber species such as teak, padauk, tamarind, and ingyin, as well as species like lepto, phankhar, dammar, sibyu, and bommeza, that grow within the reserved forest can be protected. Local residents will be able to continuously and permanently extract and utilize forest products. Furthermore, the habitats of animals such as wildcats, muntjacs, chamois, rabbits, deer, and monkeys can be protected. Increased forest cover can lead to a balanced and favorable climate, and natural springs can be conserved, bringing about such benefits.
