Six arrested for robbing about 1 viss of gold in Mandalay

YT (July 25) Mizzima. Six individuals who robbed about 1 viss of gold from the Million Dollar Jewelry shop in Mandalay city have been arrested, according to the military junta. Around 3:30 PM on July 20, six individuals entered the Million Dollar Jewelry shop located between 110th and 62nd, 64th streets in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay, and committed robbery by threatening with guns. It is reported that necklaces, bracelets, and bangles, totaling about 1 viss of gold, were stolen. Five of the robbers were arrested by the military junta forces on July 23 between Mandalay and Sagaing. The ringleader was arrested in Bago disguised as a monk. It is known that among the robbers, there are individuals with prior convictions and those who have served prison sentences. The suspects were arrested in Chanayethazan, Chanmyathazi, and Aungmyethazan townships, as well as in Bago. Those arrested have been charged and are being investigated by the No. 11 Area Police Station under Section 395 of the Penal Code, case number (P) 114/2026. The suspects had robbed a total of about 1 viss of gold, valued at approximately 6,955 million kyats, including 94 gold necklaces (weighing about 80 ticals, valued at about 5,520 million kyats), 46 gold bracelets (weighing about 15 ticals, valued at about 1,035 million kyats), and 17 gold bangles (weighing about 5 ticals, valued at about 400 million kyats). The military junta forces stated that only four melted gold bars and two gold bracelets (totaling about 15 ticals) were recovered when they were arrested, and the search for the remaining items is ongoing. Since the military coup, robbery incidents involving threats with firearms have occurred frequently in major cities such as Yangon and Mandalay, but in most cases, the perpetrators have not been apprehended.
