Vietnam's Communist Party Central Committee Convenes Third Plenum, Discusses Revised Member Regulations

The Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee held its third plenum of the 14th tenure in Hanoi. During the morning session on the first day, chaired by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, delegates discussed four agenda items. Among these, a significant focus was placed on the deliberation of a draft regulation concerning matters prohibited for Party members. This draft regulation is set to replace Regulation No. 37-QD/TW, which was issued by the 13th Party Central Committee on October 25, 2021. In Vietnam's one-party system, strict discipline for Party members forms the bedrock of maintaining the Party's authority and social control. This revision of regulations is positioned as part of the ongoing efforts in internal Party governance, aimed at strengthening Party discipline and preserving its integrity. Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic growth in recent years. Concurrently, maintaining the Party's leadership and social stability remains a paramount concern for the government. Particularly in its international relations, Vietnam continuously seeks diplomatic strategies to accelerate economic development while navigating its complex relationship with China. Within this political and social context, the revision of Party member regulations is believed to be intended to enhance the Party's appeal and strengthen the foundation supporting economic development.
