Vietnam Hosts National Traditional Swimming Championship for Middle-Aged and Elderly
The 28th National Traditional Swimming Championship for the Middle-Aged and Elderly has opened in Phu Tho Province, Vietnam, gathering 250 athletes. The event aims to promote health and regional culture, fostering sports participation among seniors and boosting local tourism.
The 28th National Traditional Swimming Championship for the Middle-Aged and Elderly kicked off on August 3rd in Hoa Binh Ward, Phu Tho Province, northern Vietnam. Organized by the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee in coordination with the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Association for the Elderly, the event has attracted 250 athletes from 19 clubs nationwide. They will compete in various swimming events tailored for middle-aged and elderly age groups. According to the organizing committee, participants will engage in a range of disciplines suitable for their respective age groups and physical conditions. The opening day featured events such as the 50m freestyle for senior athletes (men and women), 50m butterfly for men aged 60-64 and 45-49, 50m butterfly for women aged 45-49 and 40-44, 100m freestyle for men aged 70-74, 65-69, 60-64, and 55-59, and 100m freestyle for women aged 65-69, 60-64, and 50-54. Mr. Dao Tien Cuong, Deputy Director of the Phu Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Head of the Organizing Committee, stated that Phu Tho's selection as host underscores the central government's attention to sports development at the local level. The championship serves not only as a platform for athletes to interact, compete, and enhance their skills but also to promote the image of Phu Tho, a land rich in history, culture, and hospitality, to people across the country. Furthermore, it aims to stimulate the development of local tourism and services, while also energizing mass sports movements focused on improving public health and quality of life. The organizing committee anticipates discovering and replicating effective club models and activities, thereby fostering the growth of swimming among the middle-aged and elderly and contributing positively to national sports development.
