It has been learned from the Rangoon Scout Network (RSN), which disseminates information about the activities of the military council forces in Yangon Region to the public through social media, that 413 people were arrested by the military council forces in various townships within Yangon Region during the first six months of 2026. There were 79 arrests in January, 65 in February, 102 in March, 36 in April, 61 in May, and 70 in June. The RSN stated on July 17 that the townships where the most arrests occurred were Thaketa, Hlaing, and South Dagon. Of the 413 arrested individuals, 102 have been released, while 88 have been sent to military training schools and prisons. The status of the remaining 223 individuals after their arrest is unknown. Among the 413 arrested individuals, 221 were apprehended while passing by, 85 were arrested under pretext or fabricated reasons, 92 were lured and arrested, 11 were arrested during surprise checks, and 14 were arrested without their arrest method or reason being known. The arrested individuals include writer U Tin Nyoont, DJ and singer La Min Kya, and former NLD MP Dr. Saw Naing, as well as others accused of being involved in political activities and the Spring Revolution. The RSN stated that arrests related to crimes such as drug offenses, terrorism, gambling, theft, fraud, and murder, as well as missing persons cases, were not included in this calculation. The RSN stated that this list was compiled using information provided to the network, information obtained from affiliated organizations, and references from news media, and that the situation on the ground is even more severe. It was learned from a statement made by an official from the RSN to Mizzima on July 14 that in the first two weeks of July, the military council forces arrested 16 people in Yangon. The military council forces are carrying out arbitrary arrests in various ways, not only targeting passersby but also arresting people inside train stations and conducting searches and arrests inside factories. Under the Compulsory Military Service Law enacted by the military that seized power, a large number of young people are being forcibly conscripted as soldiers, and the national military service training has now reached its 27th batch.
