The SKY MAN Iron Casting Factory located in the Moubi Industrial Zone, Moubi Township, Yangon Region, was found to have tampered with its meter and stolen electricity. Consequently, the factory has been immediately shut down, and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced on September 7 that the factory has been ordered to pay 17.184 billion kyats, which is the compensation for the 23.36 million units of electricity lost by the state. Furthermore, the announcement stated that legal action is being taken by filing a case with the Moubi Police Station in accordance with the Electricity Law. The Ministry of Electricity and Energy's Control Centers are continuously undergoing technological upgrades, which has led to the increased detection of electricity theft, enabling more electricity to be distributed to citizens who have not yet received it. In August 2026, investigation teams formed by the ministry investigated and uncovered illegal electricity usage. As a result, a total of 95 individuals were identified as having illegally used electricity: 7 in the Union Territory of Nay Pyi Taw, 12 in Yangon Region, 21 in Mandalay Region, 17 in Magway Region, 32 in Ayeyarwady Region, 1 in Kachin State, 2 in Mon State, and 3 in Shan State (South). The ministry has announced that actions are being taken in accordance with established procedures, including the removal of meters, full collection of compensation, and legal prosecution of some individuals.
