Vietnam National University of Languages and International Studies: English and Chinese Pedagogy Programs Exceed 28 Points

Hanoi, Vietnam – Vietnam National University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) has set exceptionally high admission thresholds for its English and Chinese Pedagogy programs for the 2026 academic year, both exceeding 28 points out of a maximum of 30. These figures represent the highest cut-off marks at the university. According to information released by ULIS on the afternoon of August 9, the English Pedagogy program recorded 28.12 points, closely followed by the Chinese Pedagogy program at 28.11 points. Last year, these two programs also led in admission scores, though they achieved a perfect 30 out of 30. The Korean Pedagogy and Japanese Pedagogy programs both had admission thresholds above 27 points, while most other programs ranged between 23 and 25 points. The lowest admission threshold was for the Arabic Language program, at 21.05 points. ULIS has a recruitment quota of 2,400 students for the 2026 academic year. The university employs four admission methods: direct admission, selection based solely on high school graduation exam scores, a combination of exam scores with IELTS and other foreign language certificates, and the use of results from the Vietnam National University Hanoi's competency assessment test (HSA). Tuition fees for students admitted in 2026 are projected to be VND 31 million per year for programs such as Russian Language, Arabic Language, International Culture and Media, and Vietnamese Language and Culture. For programs in English, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean languages, the annual tuition fee is expected to be VND 42 million. Under Vietnam's one-party system, educational policies are closely aligned with the nation's long-term development strategies. Particularly, with increasing internationalization, there remains high interest in foreign language education, especially in programs that train future educators. However, the rising admission standards for pedagogy programs, while aiming to enhance educational quality and encourage top students to pursue these fields, also highlight the challenge of securing individuals with the necessary expertise and passion for the teaching profession. As Vietnam continues its economic growth, the cultivation of talent capable of thriving in international business and diplomatic arenas is a national priority.
