The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia has issued a directive completely prohibiting the recruitment, selection, and dispatch of Cambodian migrant workers to the fishing and mining sectors abroad. The announcement, dated September 18, cites the high risks associated with these occupations, including threats to safety, health, labor rights violations, and exploitation. According to the ministry's notification, past observations have revealed that some Cambodian citizens have gone to work in the fishing and mining industries overseas, which are characterized by significant dangers. To proactively prevent and mitigate these risks, and to ensure the safety, rights, and legal benefits of Cambodian migrant workers, the ministry has declared a categorical ban on any activities related to sending workers to these specific sectors.
