Cambodia: Progress on 3 Rural Road Projects in Takeo Province Reviewed

Minister of Rural Development Chhay Rithisen, along with technical officials from the ministry and the Takeo Provincial Department of Rural Development, inspected the progress of construction on three rural road lines and associated structures in Takeo Province on the morning of September 19, 2026. During the site inspection, the Minister held a meeting with local authorities and residents who will benefit from the projects. He informed them about the Cambodian government's commitment, under the wise leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, to improving the living standards of the people, especially in rural areas, by enhancing road quality to be resilient to climate change and usable in all seasons. Concurrently, the Minister instructed the contractors to strictly adhere to the ministry's technical standards to ensure the quality of the roads upon completion and for long-term use by the public. He also appealed to local authorities and residents to participate in the maintenance of these achievements for their longevity. The three road projects inspected are as follows: 1. The first road is a 3.00 km long, 6-meter wide DBST (Double Bituminous Surface Treatment) road, starting from the gate of Wat Phnom Chok in Keo Chamroeun village, passing through Chh’neang Khpos, to Rluos village, Tang Yab commune, Prey Kabbath district. This road will benefit a total of 421 households, equivalent to 15,505 people. Implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, construction began in December 2025 and has currently achieved 85% progress, with completion scheduled for the end of 2026. 2. The second road is a total of 6.052 km long, 5 meters wide with 1-meter shoulders on each side, connecting from the commune hall of Cheung Koung to Ang Choeung Ean village, Cheung Koung commune, Samrong district. It passes through 6 villages and will directly benefit 1,004 households (4,536 people) and indirectly benefit 10,074 people. Construction commenced in December 2025, with 53% progress achieved to date, and completion is expected by the end of 2026. This road is part of the Ministry of Rural Development's Climate-Resilient Production Chain (CFVAC) project, funded by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Green Climate Fund. 3. The third road is a total of 9.012 km long, 6 meters wide with 1-meter shoulders on each side, connecting National Road No. 2 in Lum Chh’ang commune, Samrong district, to National Road No. 3 in Udom Soriyia commune, Tram Kak district. It passes through 8 villages and will directly benefit 1,684 households (7,522 people) and indirectly benefit 21,222 people. Construction began in December 2025, with 85% progress achieved to date, and completion is scheduled for the end of 2026. This road is also part of the Ministry of Rural Development's CFVAC project, funded by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Green Climate Fund.
