BARMM Elections to Push Through on September 14, 2026, Palace Confirms

Malacañang on Monday confirmed that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections will proceed as scheduled on September 14, 2026. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, however, stated that she could not provide an update on the specific details surrounding the elections at this time but reiterated that the polls will push through. "I cannot provide an update right now because I have not been given any details, but the election will proceed," Castro said at a Palace briefing. On Sunday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that all election paraphernalia for the first parliamentary polls in BARMM had been deployed to its local hubs. Comelec chairperson George Garcia said their personnel are set to deliver the election materials from its local hubs to 105 municipalities and two cities in BARMM before September 8. BARMM, established to expand Muslim self-governance in Mindanao, Philippines, plays a crucial role in the country's overall security and economy. While past challenges have included the implementation of peace agreements and the activities of armed groups, this election confirmation signals an anticipation for the region's development through democratic processes.
