Cambodia and US Private Sector to Strengthen Health Cooperation for Citizen Well-being

Cambodia's Ministry of Health and the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) have affirmed their commitment to strengthening public-private sector cooperation to advance the health sector and enhance the well-being of Cambodian citizens. This commitment was highlighted during a working meeting between Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, and a US-ABC delegation led by Brian McFeeters, President and CEO of US-ABC, on July 22, 2026. During the meeting, both parties exchanged views and discussed several key priorities in the health sector, focusing on reinforcing cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the private sector to support the development of a more efficient, modern, and responsive healthcare system that meets the needs of the people. Discussions also covered improving nutrition and implementing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to enhance patient care quality and elevate the nutritional status of the population, particularly vulnerable groups. Concurrently, the talks focused on preventing and managing dengue fever by utilizing new technologies and innovations to increase the effectiveness of monitoring, prevention, and response to disease outbreaks. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) were also a significant topic, with discussions centered on promoting the consumption of low-sugar products and strengthening health education to encourage citizens to adopt healthy lifestyles and reduce NCD risk. Furthermore, the parties discussed strengthening cooperation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, emphasizing the use of advanced technologies, developing the capacity of healthcare personnel, and expanding access to quality healthcare services. The discussions also addressed the importance of promoting public health policies to mitigate the impact of alcohol consumption, in line with the goal of protecting and promoting public health. Minister Chheang Ra stated that the Ministry of Health welcomes investment and cooperation with the private sector based on principles of transparency, sustainability, scientific evidence, and public health benefit. The US-ASEAN Business Council, in turn, expressed its commitment to continuing support for Cambodia through investment, technology transfer, research, human resource development, and innovation promotion, contributing to building a stronger, more resilient, and highly effective healthcare system for Cambodia.
