The accident occurred near the entrance of Huay Sing village in Na Si Nun village at 11:55 AM, just before noon, as the monks were walking along the road. According to local reports, the monks had traveled from Nam Khun district, Ubon Ratchathani province, and the collision occurred as they reached near the Na Si Nun market in Mukdahan province. Five monks died at the scene, while three others died while receiving treatment at Mukdahan Hospital. Of the 18 injured monks, 13 are reported to be in serious condition. However, investigations are ongoing, and the exact number of fatalities and injuries may change. The group of 34 monks had finished their meal at Wat Rai Phra Phutthabat Phummanon temple and were continuing their journey on foot towards Don Tan district in Mukdahan province when this tragic incident occurred. Police said the vehicle involved in the accident was an Isuzu pickup truck driven by a boy around 11 years old. The boy, who is a special-needs child, reportedly took his father's car without permission and was driving from Don Tan district towards Muang district. The pickup truck skidded and drove into the group of monks, hitting many of them, which resulted in such a high number of casualties.
