Four sisters from Myaing Town Township arrested at Sagaing City entrance gate, not released for over 3 days and family denied visitation

MAGWAY REGION, July 9 – Four sisters from Myaing Town Township were arrested at a military checkpoint at the entrance to Sagaing City on the morning of July 7 and have not been released for over three days, with their families also denied visitation, relatives of the detainees told Khit Thit Media. The four women arrested by the military are from Myaing Town Township and were arrested at the military checkpoint at the entrance to Sagaing City while traveling by motorcycle to visit an acquaintance in Sagaing City. Those arrested were Ma Pan Wai Hlaing (27), Ma Win Win Maw (25), Ma Ei Phu (approximately 19), and Ma Nge Pu (approximately 35), all of whom are sisters and relatives living in the same village. Among those arrested, Ma Pan Wai Hlaing is married. After her arrest, an acquaintance in Sagaing City visited to inquire about her but was unable to meet her. When asked if she could be bailed out with money, the response was only that it was "not a situation for bail," and it is still unknown where she is being held. Initially, a responsible military officer stated that they would be detained for only about two nights and then released, but as more than three days have passed without their release, their family members are worried.
