Can Tho City Successfully Performs Emergency Surgery for Penile Fracture Due to Household Accident

In Can Tho City, southern Vietnam, a medical team from the Urology Center at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy successfully performed emergency surgery on a 36-year-old male patient who sustained a penile fracture due to a household accident. The incident was reported on September 9. The patient suffered the injury after slipping and falling, impacting his private parts against a hard surface while his penis was erect. Following the fall, the affected area experienced severe pain, swelling, and extensive bruising, necessitating urgent hospitalization. Through examination and color Doppler ultrasound, the medical team diagnosed the patient with a left corpus cavernosum rupture accompanied by fluid collection. Doctors immediately proceeded with emergency surgery, successfully removing the hematoma and repairing the white coat of the corpus cavernosum. After three days of treatment, the patient's health has recovered well, with normal urination and a dry surgical wound, meeting the criteria for discharge. Medical experts emphasize that penile trauma is a medical emergency requiring prompt intervention to mitigate dangerous complications and avoid long-term impacts on the patient's physiological and psychological functions.
