Vietnam Border Guard Honors Units for Outstanding Achievements in Drug Crime Fight

On September 8, the Vietnam Border Guard Command held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City to honor units that have achieved outstanding accomplishments in crime prevention and suppression. The meeting specifically recognized individuals and units for their contributions to combating drug-related crimes. During the event, significant achievements were highlighted, including the dismantling of transnational illegal drug trafficking and transportation networks, leading to the arrest of 740 suspects. This effort contributes to Vietnam's national goal of having at least 50% of its communes and wards free from drugs by 2030. The Vĩnh Long Provincial Border Guard received the Second-class Feat Order, while the Border Guard Command itself was awarded the First-class Feat Order. These accolades underscore the importance of establishing a security system based on the "will of the people" in border areas. Awards were also presented to the drug investigation team operating in the Ho Chi Minh City seaport area, showcasing the border guard's comprehensive approach to combating various forms of crime. Vietnam, while pursuing economic growth under its one-party system, faces the critical challenge of maintaining social stability. Drug-related offenses, with their potential impact on youth and links to organized crime, are a significant concern. The efforts of the Border Guard are thus crucial for both domestic security and Vietnam's contribution to international anti-drug initiatives.
