Sondhi vows life-long battle to jail 5 election commissioners over Senate election scandal

FORMER leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy, aka “Yellow Shirts”, Sondhi Limthongkul today (Sep. 25) declared that he will fight all his life and do everything possible to get five election commissioners jailed for allegedly colluding in the 2024 Senate election scandal, Naewna newspaper said. Sondhi, who recently launched a new political movement under the concept of “Taking Back our Thailand”, and his supporters showed up at the Election Commission office to submit a letter accusing the commissioners of failing to perform their duties in accordance with the Constitution. This follows a resolution to treat 2024’s senatorial electoral irregularities as individual, non-mutually connected phenomena and only prosecute 77 out of the total 229 suspects, including 26 little-known senators, whilst allegedly keeping Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob and the other eminent elements of this camp intact from prosecution in the Supreme Court. Speaking on stage near Building B within the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana road where the Election Commission office is located, Sondhi also said that Thailand is currently controlled by the “Blue” faction, with the centre of power located in Buriram — a situation creating social injustice. In political jargon, blue is the shade specifically representing the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government, navigated behind the scenes Newin and formally led by Anutin. In a targeting the polling agency’s chairman Narong Klanwarin, Sondhi said he often cites his 38-year career as a judge thus asking the agency’s officials to convey a message to him which is that he knows full well whether the recent decision on 2024 senatorial election was correct or not. He insisted that he would succeed in this mission, no matter how long it takes and even after the five commissioners have left office, emphasising that as long as he is alive he will use all possible means to ensure they are imprisoned At the same time, he praised the polling agency’s officials who possess integrity and a sense of justice, particularly those serving on Sub-committee No. 26, which had originally advised that Bhumjaithai be subject to partisan dissolution at an order of the Supreme Court due to their alleged involvement in the 2024 senatorial vote-buying conspiracy, assuring them that their struggle would remain in the hearts of the people.
