Cambodia Boosts Farmer Incomes Through Modern Agricultural Community Development

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has emphasized the government's strong commitment to developing the agricultural sector and improving the livelihoods of its citizens. This includes promoting high-efficiency, quality agricultural production that meets market demands. Minister Dith Tina highlighted this policy during a meeting with farmers and leaders of the 'Mongkol Borey Modern Agricultural Community' in Battambang province, where he reviewed work progress and understood the community's challenges and needs. Minister Dith Tina stated that the government is highly concerned with improving the living standards of its people, especially farmers, who are the backbone of food production and a vital part of the national economy. Therefore, agricultural development should not only focus on increasing production volume but also on quality, productivity, added value, and the competitiveness of agricultural products. He further explained that establishing and strengthening 'Modern Agricultural Communities' is a key mechanism to gather farmers' efforts, enabling community-based production with planning, technical expertise, and better responsiveness to market demands. Through collaboration, farmers can reduce production costs, increase efficiency, and gain better market negotiation power. The 'Mongkol Borey Modern Agricultural Community' has received greenhouse support from the Cambodia Agricultural Diversification Project (CASDP), which is crucial for promoting modern and efficient agricultural production. These greenhouses help farmers better manage their cultivation, reduce the impact of external factors, and enhance their ability to produce quality products that meet consumer and market requirements. The use of such modern agricultural techniques and infrastructure also contributes to shifting from traditional farming to managed, market-oriented production. During his direct engagement with farmers, the Minister paid close attention to the community's challenges and needs to ensure that support from the ministry and related projects is targeted and provides tangible benefits. Support for modern agricultural communities is considered a foundation for increasing productivity, quality, and the value of agricultural products, thereby boosting farmers' incomes and improving their families' well-being and resilience to various challenges in the agricultural sector. Minister Dith Tina's direct visits to farmers and communities demonstrate the Ministry of Agriculture's focus on using local realities and needs as a basis for developing support and solutions, guiding Cambodian agriculture towards modern, efficient, and market-certain production.
