The Eastern Region Investment Promotion Working Group of Cambodia has approved three investment projects in the region, focusing on coffee and cocoa cultivation, livestock and slaughterhouse operations, and agricultural product processing factories. These initiatives are expected to attract a total investment of $108 million and create approximately 700 jobs for local residents. The sixth meeting of the working group was led by Dr. Hian Sayhip, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, who also heads the Eastern Region Investment Promotion Working Group. The meeting, held in Phnom Penh on July 28, 2026, was attended by representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, as well as administrative bodies from the four member provinces of the eastern region. Dr. Hian emphasized that despite numerous global challenges, Cambodia continues to maintain its appeal to both domestic and foreign investors. He cited the recent meetings between Prime Minister Hun Manet and major Chinese companies at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in China (July 15-17, 2026), where Chinese firms expressed their intention to expand investments in Cambodia. In this context, Dr. Hian urged the working group to continue its efforts in coordination with proactiveness and high efficiency to provide various incentives and streamlined procedures, thereby strengthening the confidence of national and international investors. The ultimate goal is to further enhance the investment climate and ensure Cambodia remains a significant investment destination in the region. Dr. Hian further stated that procedural facilitation and the provision of special incentives to investors should be proactively undertaken to improve the business environment in the four eastern provinces. This should be done through a "package solution" approach, adhering to the "primacy of the single entity system" and upholding the spirit of "supremacy" for national interests. Investors, in turn, are expected to focus on the practical implementation of projects according to their submitted plans, with particular emphasis on job creation, training, skills transfer, and the utilization of new technologies in the value chain, from production to higher value-added processing, to promote national socio-economic development. During the meeting, several critical issues requiring immediate resolution were discussed to enhance work efficiency. Representatives from relevant ministries and institutions pledged their strong commitment to providing maximum, prompt, transparent, and highly efficient facilitation to create a conducive environment for businesses and investments, thereby stimulating greater investment activities in the four target provinces. Dr. Hian concluded by expressing his gratitude to the members of the working group for their facilitation efforts, which are crucial for the success of this important special program of the Royal Government, ultimately benefiting the nation and the people of Cambodia.
