Vinh Long Province Builds Homes for Descendants of War Veterans Exposed to Agent Orange

Vinh Long Province in Vietnam is implementing a project to build and repair homes for the children of war veterans who were exposed to chemical agents (Agent Orange) during the Vietnam War. This initiative is part of the province's social support efforts, timed to coincide with the upcoming Vietnamese Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers' Day on July 27 and Vietnam's Day for Victims of Agent Orange on September 10. To widely publicize this effort, the province has selected Trung Ngai commune as the model site for a province-wide groundbreaking ceremony. In Trung Ngai commune alone, five out of 90 eligible families will benefit from this support. The project aims to provide safe and stable housing for beneficiary families facing economic hardship. Phan Thị Huỳnh Như, a representative from one of the beneficiary families in Trung Ngai commune, expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, having lived in a dilapidated house for many years. "We worried every time it rained. Today, seeing the new house being built, I feel indescribable joy and emotion. This support is a great spiritual pillar for us to overcome difficulties, stabilize our lives, and focus on production," she said. Vo Minh Hoang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Trung Ngai commune, emphasized the political and humanitarian significance of this project and stated that the selection of the five beneficiary families was conducted meticulously. "We commit to mobilizing the entire local political system, closely coordinating with construction units, and continuously monitoring quality, progress, and labor safety to deliver the most robust homes to the residents before the rainy season," he stated. Across Vinh Long Province, 90 households who are children of war veterans exposed to chemical agents, currently receiving monthly preferential treatment but living in temporary or dilapidated housing with urgent housing needs, have been approved for this housing support. This activity is positioned not only as a state responsibility but also as a shared moral duty of the entire political system, the business community, and society as a whole. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, stressed the importance of each house being completed promptly, ensuring quality and safety, and being handed over to the families early. "Care for those who have made contributions is not only the responsibility of the state but also the sentiment and morality of the entire political system, the business community, and society. Each completed house will be a symbol of gratitude and community responsibility, contributing to fostering trust and solidarity among the people," she said.
