Around 10 Civilians Arrested by Military Council Troops in Ywangan

Mekong, July 29 In Ywangan Township, Danu Self-Administered Zone, Shan State, military council troops entered urban wards and some villages, carrying out arrests and taking away approximately 10 local civilians, according to local residents. According to reports, during the arrests that occurred on the night of July 28, about 4 people from urban wards in Ywangan, about 4 people from Ingon village, and about 2 people from Naubangyi Taung village were arrested. A local resident told Mekong, "These arrests happen frequently. Even the families don't know where they are taken. There have been past incidents where they were used as porters during military convoys, so everyone is worried." According to local residents, for the past several months in Ywangan Township, there have been continuous incidents of residents being forcibly taken as guides during military convoys and being arrested as porters for military service. Currently, military tensions continue between the Danu People's Liberation Army (DPLA) and the military council troops within the Danu region, and local residents say that troops under the command of the 55th Division based in Kalaw Township carried out these arrests.
