PH Crime Rate Plummets 41.77% in August 2026, PNP Reports

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a drop in focus crimes across the country, down from 3,584 incidents in 2025 to 2,087 in 2026 — or a 41.77 percent drop. In a statement on Tuesday, the PNP said the data referred to focus crimes recorded from January to August 2026, compared with data for the same period in 2025. Focus crimes refer to carnapping, rape, physical injuries, theft, robbery, and homicide. “The figures reflect the value of sustained police presence and prevention efforts, while emphasizing that every remaining incident still calls for attention,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement. “The PNP remains committed to sustaining the positive gains while addressing persistent concerns through responsive and responsible policing,” he added. READ: PNP: Crime rate drops by 19.96% in February 2026 The PNP detailed that carnapping of motor vehicles declined by 67.74 percent in August 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, while rape cases declined by 58.65 percent and carnapping of motorcycles by 53.64 percent. The national police force further noted that physical injury cases also decreased by 46.83 percent; theft by 41.67 percent; robbery by 33.16 percent; and homicide by 3.33 percent. /mcm
