PNP Orders Inspection of Service Vehicles After Viral Photo of Unplated Police Car

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered an immediate inspection and verification of all its service vehicles and their documentation after a photo of a police vehicle without a license plate went viral on social media. "I have already ordered an immediate investigation to ensure that all rules on vehicle identification and road compliance are strictly upheld without exception," said PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in a statement on Thursday. READ: PNP probes police vehicle used without license plate The directive was issued after a police vehicle assigned to the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) was spotted along Commonwealth Avenue without a license plate. The photo was posted on the motorist community page Visor and has since gone viral. Nartatez also ordered the immediate accounting and inspection of motor pool assets assigned to the PSPG and other support units to verify whether police vehicles have the required plates and documentation. "Any violation or administrative lapse will be addressed under PNP rules and due process," he added. The PNP previously said it was conducting an internal investigation on the matter.
