Vehicle accident occurred at 39-mile rest stop on Yangon-Mandalay Expressway as driver suddenly had seizure

It has been learned from the Expressway Maintenance and Supervision Group that a traffic accident occurred this morning, September 17, at the 39-mile Bonnat Gyi rest stop on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, when the driver suddenly had a seizure (epilepsy) and accelerated. The incident occurred around 7:50 AM on September 17, when a black KIA Seltos SUV, carrying one male and three females, which was traveling from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw, entered the 39-mile Bonnat Gyi rest stop and was about to depart. As it was departing, the driver suddenly had a seizure, his legs stiffened, and he accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to lose control of its speed and go over the platform curb within the rest stop. The vehicle then collided with a galvanized iron roofed building and flower beds constructed for parking, and one of the female passengers on board was injured. The Expressway Maintenance and Supervision Group has notified that drivers using the expressway need to pay attention to their health condition while driving, and those with seizures, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), poor eyesight, or nervous system weakness should only drive after obtaining permission from their respective doctors or healthcare professionals.
