Thai King and Queen to Make State Visit to Vietnam in September

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand and Her Majesty the Queen will pay a state visit to Vietnam from September 14-16, 2026, at the invitation of Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and his spouse. This visit marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Vietnam, a socialist state under a one-party system, prioritizes economic growth. In recent years, while deepening economic ties with China, Vietnam has faced geopolitical tensions, particularly concerning the South China Sea. The Thai King's visit in this context could strengthen Vietnam's diplomatic standing in the region and further enhance cooperation within ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Thailand and Vietnam have maintained friendly relations for many years, cooperating in various fields including economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Notably, the revitalization of the Vietnamese student movement in Thailand, the promotion of railway development in Thailand, and commemorative events for Vietnam's 81st National Day and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations held in northeastern Thailand have contributed to fostering closeness between the two peoples. This state visit by the King and Queen is expected to further develop bilateral relations, particularly by promoting expanded economic cooperation and coordinated efforts towards maintaining regional peace and stability. The Vietnamese government aims to attract foreign investment and achieve export-led economic growth, and strengthening ties with Thailand will be a crucial step towards achieving this goal.
