Remembering Comrade Le Quang Dao: Honoring a Leader of the Vietnamese Revolution

A scientific conference was held in Hanoi on August 7 to commemorate Comrade Le Quang Dao, a distinguished leader of the Vietnamese Communist Party and revolution. The event marked the 105th anniversary of his birth (August 8, 1921 - August 8, 2026) and was organized by the Ho Chi Minh Institute and Party Leaders at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics. Comrade Le Quang Dao held numerous significant positions throughout his career, including former Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Chairman of the National Assembly, former Vice Chairman of the Council of State, and former Chairman of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front. The conference emphasized his over 60 years of continuous revolutionary activity, during which he consistently excelled in his assigned duties and made crucial contributions to national liberation and the cause of national construction. Associate Professor, Dr. Ly Viet Quang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute and Party Leaders, highlighted in his opening remarks that Comrade Le Quang Dao deeply absorbed and fully practiced the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh regarding the virtues of a revolutionary: "knowledge, courage, benevolence, trustworthiness, integrity, and diligence." He was lauded as an "outstanding student of President Ho Chi Minh," embodying unwavering will, courageous pioneering spirit, and firm political conviction to overcome all challenges and contribute to building a new society. He was also recognized as a dedicated and responsible leader to the people and the Party, always close to his comrades and compatriots with a spirit of tolerance and magnanimity. The conference brought together nearly 30 participants, including scientists, representatives from central and local government agencies, and relatives and individuals from Comrade Le Quang Dao's hometown. The discussions delved into various aspects of his life and career, illuminating his image as a "respected, resolute, yet approachable" leader. He was particularly noted for his role as an exemplary communist, a creative leader, and a talented military and political commander during the early period of "Doi Moi" (Renovation). The enduring values of Comrade Le Quang Dao as a model communist continue to shine, serving as a spiritual anchor and a steadfast benchmark for cadres, party members, and people from all walks of life in the ongoing endeavor of national construction and development. Born on August 8, 1921, in what is now Tu Son city, Bac Ninh province, he began his revolutionary activities at the age of 17 and joined the Party at 19. After serving in key roles such as Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee and Hanoi City Party Committee, he was assigned to the military in 1950. Following 28 years of service, he was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1974. He later held positions including Head of the Central Science and Education Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly after the country's reunification. In recognition of his immense contributions, Comrade Le Quang Dao was awarded numerous prestigious honors, including the Golden Star Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order, the First-class Military Exploit Order, the First-class Victory Order, and the National Great Unity Order.
