Siem Reap City Experiences Flooding Due to Persistent Heavy Rainfall; Authorities Monitor Situation

Several areas within the seven districts of Siem Reap City, Cambodia, have experienced intermittent flooding following several days of heavy and continuous rainfall. Local authorities and relevant forces are closely monitoring the situation and preparing to intervene and assist the affected population. Mr. Hay Yong, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap City, stated on the afternoon of September 25, 2026, that the flooding was caused by a large volume of persistent rainfall, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas and some locations where the drainage system could not cope in a timely manner. "In the past few days, Siem Reap City has been hit by continuous heavy rainfall, causing localized flooding in several areas across the seven districts," Mr. Yong confirmed. "The city administration, in cooperation with relevant ministries, agencies, and local authorities, is closely monitoring the situation and preparing necessary measures to mitigate the impact on the residents." The Deputy Governor urged residents in flood-prone areas to stay updated on weather information and official announcements from the authorities. He also emphasized the need for increased vigilance, particularly for children and the elderly, and when traveling through flooded areas. Authorities have assured that they will continue to monitor the situation regularly and will take immediate intervention measures if additional rainfall occurs or if water levels continue to rise in vulnerable areas.
