Sihanoukville Provincial Department Resolves Construction Worker Wage Dispute Successfully

Specialized officials from the Sihanoukville Provincial Department of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training have successfully intervened and mediated a dispute involving 14 construction workers demanding a total of approximately $7,000 USD in unpaid wages. The contractor has commenced immediate partial payment and established a clear timeline for the remaining balance. According to Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, who spoke to reporters on August 6, 2026, following the mediation, the contractor agreed to pay $1,000 USD to the workers immediately. The remaining $6,000 USD in wages is scheduled to be paid directly at the construction site on August 12, 2026. Mr. Sun Mesa stated, "The Ministry of Labor always pays close attention to protecting the rights and legal interests of employees. When problems arise, specialized officials will intervene immediately to urge the parties involved to find solutions and fulfill their obligations in accordance with the law. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation until the workers receive their full wages." He added that this case demonstrates that the Ministry's labor dispute resolution mechanisms, both at the ministerial and provincial levels, are operating actively and effectively, focusing on mediation, protecting workers' rights, and maintaining harmony in labor relations. Concurrently, the Ministry will continue to monitor the implementation of the agreement until the workers receive their full wages, in accordance with the contractor's promises and current legal provisions.
