Thailand Expressway Tolls Set for Significant Increase from December 15

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT), under the Ministry of Transport, is in talks with Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM) regarding a substantial increase in Prachim Ratthaya Expressway (Si Rat–Outer Ring Road Expressway) tolls from December 15 onwards, in an attempt to alleviate the financial burden borne by the public, Naewna newspaper reported on September 15. This toll adjustment aligns with the terms of the investment concession agreement, which mandates a toll rate revision (ranging from 15 to 35 baht) every five years. BEM holds the concession and fully funded the project’s investment; consequently, operations, including toll rate setting, are in accordance with the rights, obligations, and agreements stipulated in the concession contract. However, EXAT is currently discussing details with BEM and relevant agencies to finalize appropriate assistance measures aimed at alleviating hardship and reducing the financial burden on the public. Official details will be announced to the public well in advance of the scheduled toll increase on December 15. Should these negotiations fail to reach a desired outcome, the following rates will apply from December 15 onwards, exclusively for the Si Rat–Outer Ring Road Expressway: – Four-wheeled vehicles: New rate 80 baht/vehicle (previously 65 baht) – Six–10-wheeled vehicles: New rate 130 baht/vehicle (previously 105 baht) – Vehicles with more than 10 wheels: New rate 185 baht/vehicle (previously 150 baht). The Si Rat Expressway, also known as the Second Stage Expressway System, is the second expressway to be opened in the country and is 38.4 kilometers in length. The expressway has played an important role in alleviating ground-level road traffic in Bangkok.
