Lai Châu Province: Over 200 Households Urgently Evacuated from Landslide Risk

In Mường Than commune, Lai Châu Province, northern Vietnam, 219 households, totaling 1,256 residents of Noong Thăng village, were urgently evacuated to safe locations due to the heightened risk of landslides caused by prolonged heavy rainfall. The evacuation was completed by 8:30 PM on July 18. According to Mr. Tao Văn Giót, Secretary of the Mường Than Commune Party Committee, in response to the landslide threat in Noong Thăng village, the province of Lai Châu directed functional forces to mobilize and evacuate residents to safety. Above Noong Thăng village are steep mountains with three water channels flowing down towards the village. Signs of landslides were observed mid-slope, indicating a very high risk. Mr. Tòng Văn Pụa, Head of the Mass Mobilization Committee of Noong Thăng village, stated that from 4 PM on July 18, military, police, and local authorities urged residents to evacuate and assisted in moving people and property to safety. He warned that if the heavy rain continues for an extended period, the risk of flash floods and debris flows remains high. Currently, Lai Châu Province is reinforcing its human resources, material resources, and vehicles to overcome the consequences of natural disasters in Mường Than commune. Forces including the army, police, and self-defense militia are working diligently to rescue, rescue, and overcome the aftermath of floods, helping residents stabilize their lives as soon as possible.
