Thai Police Probe Khlong Luang Station Chief Over Alleged Extortion Audio Clip

The Royal Thai Police has launched an investigation into the superintendent of Khlong Luang Police Station following the online circulation of an audio clip allegedly depicting the officer soliciting benefits from a restaurant operator in Pathum Thani province. Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Piwpan stated that authorities had been informed of the allegations and had instructed the Pathum Thani Provincial Police commander to urgently verify the facts in a transparent and impartial manner. Following an initial review, the Pathum Thani Provincial Police reported that there was sufficient reason to believe the voice heard in the recording may belong to the superintendent of Khlong Luang Police Station. The officer has since been ordered to report to the Pathum Thani Provincial Police Operations Center temporarily while a fact-finding committee conducts a formal investigation in accordance with police regulations and relevant laws. Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong emphasized that if the investigation confirms any request for illegal benefits or other misconduct, the officer involved will face both disciplinary and criminal action without exception, regardless of rank or position. The Royal Thai Police reiterated that all cases involving alleged misconduct will be handled based on evidence, facts, transparency, and fairness to maintain public confidence. Authorities said further updates will be released once additional information becomes available. This incident highlights the ongoing scrutiny of police conduct in Thailand and the importance of maintaining public trust through impartial investigations and accountability.
