Fuel price in Musee rises to K6100 per litre

In Musee, northern Shan State, there is no legal fuel supply, and residents are forced to buy fuel smuggled by armed groups, with gasoline and diesel currently costing around K6100 per litre, said U Aung Zaw Soe, a Member of Parliament for the Musee constituency. He also stated that because the country is not receiving adequate tax revenue due to the high cost of purchasing smuggled fuel, it is suffering losses, and therefore, he wishes for the re-authorization of fuel imports from China. For fuel imports from border areas, it is necessary to submit to the Foreign Exchange Supervisory Committee according to the permitted tonnage by the Fuel Import, Storage, and Distribution Business Supervision Committee, and upon receiving import permission, it must be imported after applying for an import license at the Border Trade Department. The Ministry of Electricity and Energy stated that although there are difficulties in importing fuel in the 2026-2027 fiscal year due to the current regional situation of the Musee trade route, it will proceed with reviewing and re-authorizing imports based on past import performance and the import situation from other border trade stations, said Deputy Minister U Kyaw Naing Win. Fuel for use in Musee was officially permitted for import by four companies through border gates such as Chin San Chaw and Man Win from 2023 until early July 2025. It is understood that after the import license expired from July 2025, no new import licenses have been granted.
