Cambodia, China Deepen Ties with Fujian Province Pledging Investment and Tourism Cooperation

XIAMEN, China, Sept 7, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and China have reaffirmed their “ironclad friendship” and pledged to expand cooperation in investment and tourism, with Fujian Province encouraging more Chinese companies to explore opportunities in the Kingdom, officials said Monday. Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, also First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, made the remarks during meetings with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Fujian leaders in Xiamen on the sidelines of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade. Chanthol described Cambodia-China ties as a long-standing friendship nurtured by successive leaders and highlighted their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Han said Beijing was ready to deepen practical cooperation and integrate trade and investment further. Chanthol expressed appreciation for China’s support for Cambodia’s development, particularly infrastructure projects, and updated Chinese officials on the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project. Fujian authorities pledged to encourage more enterprises to invest in Cambodia and promote tourism and cultural exchanges. The talks come as Cambodia intensifies efforts to attract Chinese investment. Earlier this month, Phnom Penh hosted a government-private sector dialogue with more than 70 Chinese-funded firms, agreeing to strengthen facilitation and resolve business challenges. Chanthol also raised tourism cooperation, including a four-month visa-free campaign for Chinese visitors, and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to tackling online technology scams, with an international conference on cyber fraud set for later this month. The renewed push underscores China’s role as a key economic partner. A recent China-ASEAN entrepreneurs summit in Cambodia drew nearly 300 participants, focusing on new energy, manufacturing, healthcare and the digital economy. Officials said the latest meetings reinforced Cambodia’s aim to translate close political ties with China into greater investment, tourism and infrastructure cooperation.
