Cambodia Releases 54 Turtles into Protected Area

In Pursat province, the Srey Chok fishing community recently received 54 turtles from the Pursat Provincial Administration for release into a protected area within the community. This initiative was facilitated by the Department of Fisheries Administration under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Pursat province. According to Conservation International Cambodia (CI), this activity reflects the strong confidence between provincial and local authorities in the protection of natural resources in the area, as well as the effectiveness of communication, cooperation, and close partnership between the community and authorities at all levels. Since 2016, CI has supported the Srey Chok fishing community in strengthening institutional capacity, conserving and restoring natural resources, and building good relationships with local authorities. Through continuous coordination and participation, the community has been able to receive technical and resource support, as well as various development programs from the government, while also strengthening trust, transparency, and accountability between the community and authorities. The partnership between the community and the Provincial Administration has significantly contributed to enhancing conservation outcomes, restoring flooded forests, and improving the livelihoods of the local community.
