Lanao del Sur Celebrates Inaugural Sarimanok Festival, Fostering Culture and Local Economy

MARAWI CITY — Lanao del Sur province successfully concluded its 1st Pakaradiyaan or Sarimanok Festival, a month-long celebration marking its 67th founding anniversary, which culminated last Thursday. Steve Patrick Fernandez, artistic director of Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) and one of the Board of Judges, told the Inquirer by phone Saturday morning that the festival was a success. The festival served as a platform to showcase the province's rich cultural heritage and artistic talents. Displays of traditional attire, performances, and locally crafted artworks attracted significant attention from attendees. The Sarimanok, a mythical bird revered in Philippine folklore, particularly among Muslim communities in the southern Philippines, symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. The festival aimed to honor this cultural significance and foster a sense of identity and pride among the local population. Furthermore, the event is expected to contribute to the local economy's revitalization.
