On July 6, a fishing boat operating off the coast of Lam Dong collided with a cargo ship and sank, resulting in the death of one of the 17 crew members. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. when the fishing vessel BTh 98379 TS (over 17 meters in length, 420 horsepower), which had departed from Phu Hai fishing port for fishing activities, was struck. The captain was identified as Phan Van Chi (born 1972, from Phu Thuy ward, Lam Dong province). The accident site was approximately 10 nautical miles southeast of Phu Hai fishing port, at coordinates 10°46′38″N-108°08′38″E. The cargo ship, Viet Thuan 11-07, collided with the fishing vessel, causing BTh 98379 TS to sink. Fortunately, all 17 crew members were rescued by nearby fishing boats, but one person died. The cargo ship Viet Thuan 11-07 is scheduled to dock at Phan Thiet port on the afternoon of the same day for an investigation by the authorities. Upon receiving the report of the accident, the Thanh Hai Border Guard notified nearby vessels, requesting their cooperation in rescue efforts.
