Cambodia Pledges Support for Military Families Facing Hardship Amid Border Conflict

In Cambodia's Kampong Thom province, on September 1, 2026, Major General Som Son, Commander of the Kampong Thom Operational Zone of Military Region 4, led colleagues to visit and inquire about the well-being of families of soldiers defending the territorial integrity along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The visit focused on families residing in Snor village, Trapaing Ruessei commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province, who are currently facing hardship. Mrs. Aun Phi, 48, who has one child and an elderly father to care for, explained that her husband, Mao Satya, 52, holds the rank of Colonel and serves in the 3rd Intervention Division, currently stationed to defend territorial integrity in the Preah Vihear Temple area of Preah Vihear province. Before the invasion by Thai soldiers occurred along the border, she, her child, and her elderly father lived with her husband in the Cambodia-Thailand border area, occupying a house provided by the government. However, due to the invasion and subsequent conflict, her husband instructed her to return to their hometown. Currently, she lacks a suitable place to live and is experiencing significant financial difficulties. During the visit, Major General Som Son and his colleagues presented humanitarian aid, including food and essential supplies, as a donation from Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife, Dr. Pich Chanmony. The aid package consisted of 50 kilograms of rice, two boxes of "Mee Nite" instant noodles, two sets of fish sauce and soy sauce, and two sets of canned fish. Major General Som Son wished the family good health and pledged continued support for the families of heroes serving on the front lines. Mrs. Aun Phi, wife of a hero soldier on the front lines, expressed her deepest gratitude to Major General Som Son and his colleagues for bringing humanitarian aid from Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife. She also offered prayers for the Prime Minister, his wife, and all leaders of the Kampong Thom Operational Zone Command to receive the blessings of the Buddha.
