Cambodia, Malaysia Pledge Deeper Economic and Tourism Ties

AKP Phnom Penh, August 4, 2026 -- Cambodia and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation in economic and tourism sectors, along with other key areas of mutual interest. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation shared the commitment in a news release issued after the 3rd Meeting of the Cambodia-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), held on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the co-chairmanship of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Malaysian Foreign Minister H.E. Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan. The Ministry said both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in priority areas, including trade and investment, agriculture, education, security, national defence, employment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. At the conclusion of the meeting, the two co-chairs signed the Agreed Minutes of the 3rd Cambodia-Malaysia JCBC Meeting, which will serve as a roadmap for further advancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Malaysia reached more than US$795 million in the first half of 2026, representing an increase of nearly 57 percent compared to the same period last year. During the period, Cambodia’s exports to Malaysia were valued at nearly US$113 million, up 64 percent, while imports from Malaysia exceeded US$682 million, increasing by nearly 56 percent.
